This thriller is a page turner from chapter one!
Rachel’s true-crime podcast has become a huge success. After uncovering fresh evidence that set an innocent man free in her previous season, Rachel’s name has become famous in households across the country. For her third season, Rachel travels to a small town on the coast of North Carolina to cover a rape trial.
On her way to Neapolis, Rachel stops at a roadside diner to grab some breakfast. When she returns to her car, she finds a letter attached to her windshield with her name on it. The letter is from a woman named Hannah who lost her sister, Jenny, 25 years ago to an alleged drowning. Hannah is convinced it was a murder and wants Rachel’s help investigating the closed case.
Rachel is unsettled by this letter. A lot of people know her name, but she has been careful not to post pictures of herself. But as the letters continue showing up, Rachel’s curiosity takes over. As we get deeper into the rape trial, Rachel finds harrowing connections in the two cases.
There was no doubting my five-star rating for “The Night Swim!” It is a genuine page-turner that kept me hooked from the very beginning.
The book jumps between the current trial, Rachel’s podcast, and the letters from Hannah describing what happened the night her sister died over two decades ago. I found every aspect of it so fascinating.
A fair warning: it gets heavy at times. If rape is a potential trigger for you, you may want to skip this one.
The attention to detail is vital in this story, and Goldin does an amazing job delivering. Pay close attention, and you may be able to find the connection in the cases. I will be the first to admit I did not at all. My guess was far off!
This thriller completely captivated my attention from the very first page. If you’re a true-crime fan, you’ll love this book!
